Experimental HID lamps
Hi Kev, several prototypes of the metal halide lamp you requested are now on their way to you! With special anti-oxidation coating on the end seals to hopefully prolong life in your stadium fittings.

Sorry the end caps are from the usual short daylight models, the colour of these is in fact NDL though. 4000K and a little over 230,000 lumens!

Are you bringing these down to the meet? I would love to get a chance to see them.

Man, now *THAT* is what you call an arc tube Smile

I've got some dead ones at my place. This is fantastic news James thanks a lot! At a cost of £250 just to lower the columns at one of the schools these should certainly be an upgrade! Did you send the meter to see how hot the ends are getting?

My goodness these are beasts! 230k lumens Shocked Cool

What is it that stops these oxidising like a mercury tube would do?
Kev   [22 Mar, 2016 at 10:39 PM]
Pure Cornish air rich?

Sure I can bring another to the meet! And if Kev can provide 400 Volts, I'll bring a big ballast as well Smile
The end seals on air-burning MH arc tubes are longer than on a mercury arc tube, this lowers the seal temperature, in theory to safe levels. However in an enclosed fitting that temperature can increase into the danger zone again. To try and prevent that, the foils in these lamps are coated with a special concotion we developed that slows the rate of oxidation and will hopefully extend life.

I may will bring a 400W generator to the meet!
