I hope there was no asbestos on these. What I do know is the building was sandblasted with these still inside. Look at the piles of dust on the floor from them.

Are these ballasts SRS?

They are switchstart with the starter socket in the side

try removing one of the chokes, you may find a date stamped on the underside, mine have 1951 on them

mine have the large aluminium can starters in the side, when you take them out, the tube goes out

Very similar to the spine I have with the hooks though mine was used bare and was long enough for the 4ft tube. That was also filthy when I got it, as though someone had emptied a vacuum cleaner bag onto it.
