"Fitzgerald" Lightpack installed.
This batten started off as an LED batten with no gear, close spaced Y style lampholders and some nasty 5000k LED tubes.
The whole reason why I bought it was to play with so added some nice Tridonic chokes and Thorn Vivatronic starters. I also swapped the lampholders to wide spaced H ones which look a lot better. But I never found a use for it until now.
The only thing is, before I fitted it at the other end of my man cave so I have more light, I stripped the mag gear out and installed a Philips HF Performer III. This was done because my high mains voltage makes the chokes run smoking hot and it probably isn't doing the lamps much good either. I also did the surface cat2 fitting at the other end of the room which used to buzz like fuck.
I forget what brand this was sold as but it's deffo Fitzgerald as it still retains their logo on the spine and the Made in England stamp on the cover.

Weren’t they called “Powerlight Fitzgerald” or something? Definitely an improvement with the newly installed gear.

That looks great - With the T12 H socket of the familiar classic Lightpack. Now only the missing keyhole slot screws in the cover make it different still. Good call on the HF for the high line

I just had a look in my gallery and the original LED fitting was branded as Wirefield.

Is the Vivatronic starters soft starting the lamps? I've heard about Thorn electronic starters that instant starts the lamps.

@Dor123, They make the ballasts rumble loud on start up and blacken tubes up more in life but i've never noticed any reduced life in tubes compared with tubes on Switch Start in my fittings.

They do make a nice rumble when you turn them on. The lamps that I have been running in the cat2 fitting that I converted back in 2016 show no sign of any end blackening tbh!

Not so healthy for the ballast. Instant-start starters doing instant starting by moving between preheating (Closed) and starting (Opened) very fast, resulting in the said rumbling of the ballast.

Looks very nice, the H lamp holders look a lot better too Smile

Ballast rumbling is effect of pulling half wave through it, which brings it towards saturation and makes strong fringing magnetic fields that pull the spine of the luminaire

Connecting the Vivatronic through a rectifier bridge would make an interesting experiment, though it might overload the vivatronic during starting or later running
