Depends if the expanding rusting iron core had compromised the insulation on the windings...

@Slyspark, this was found in a friends soggy shed along with another much less rusty Sovereign, no more there sadly

@AngryHorse, Yes it's bad! I got this from the same place where the other Transtar ballasted Sovereign came from a couple of days ago, but this fitting looked so bad that I chucked it straight in my scrap pile. Curiosity caused me to have a look at it today and I can't believe the ballast and series capacitor still work fine (at least for now)

For anyone that may have missed it, I refurbished this ballast and it has been in regular use since in a Crompton Star clicky
