Hilclare Wallpackette Wannabe - Open

I know at least a couple of people have asked about these before so thought I'd grab this one out of the skip at work to take a look at (spoiler alert: it's 'meh').

It has fairly thin casting, as you can see when I applied a very small amount of force onto the threaded door securing tab it snapped off! The threads on said tab are just made in the casting too, these will seize and get chewed up if not kept thoroughly greased. The door hinge is also just a couple of screws in the casting, not great but I guess it works. On the plus side the diffuser is glass.

Overall, these just feel like a very cheapened-down Wallpackette.

Note: there is usually a silver reflector in here.

Note2: I think these are also sold under other brands e.g. Tamlite

Ahhhh, their Hilclare are they??, that’s about right, their 250 watt SON floods are as bad, if the ignitor dies the whole unit is scrap, as you can’t remove the rusted gear box screws!, Ansells Euro-flood are better units.

Here there were a few manufacturers maing those, (Gaash, MS Light, ..) They all look the same but not exactly the same - so probably do come from different sources, or atleast made to different specs. Lately i have seen an 80's one still installed, and noticed that it opens down and not sideways - Is that the Holophane original ? I have seen 80's ones that open sideways too
