Iwasaki EYE MT70SDW arcstream.
Looking at the arcstream of a 70w EYE Colour Arc 3500k open-rated quartz metal halide lamp through a 180mm macro lens and an ND1000 filter.

I'm not sure if this lamp needs a couple of hundred hours to stabilise but this it massively colour shifts depending on which way round it is when operating. When you run it with the sealing pip facing up then a load of condensed halide salts form at the bottom and makes the light emitted from the bottom much warmer than is emitted from the top.

Every halide lamp I’ve ever used does the same, but I’m sure GE says somewhere, to avoid running halides with the pip seal at the bottom?

I've just never noticed it as strongly as on this lamp, its literally white coming out of the top and very warm white being emitted from the bottom when the pip is at the top.

I think this lamp have thallium and rare-earths, but the thallium here somehow absorbs lots of blue light from the dysprosium in this lamp, causing the CCT to be lower. I would be interested to see the spectrum of this lamp.
