150w GE Arcstream... arcstream :)
Having a look at the arcstream of one these very compact UK-made Thorn/GE Arcstream lamps.
Quite hard to get a good shot but you get the idea. There is quite a lot of thick, curved quartz close together which makes things difficult.
The discharge fills the entire top of the arc tube and it get's very hot indeed!
On shutdown the entire gas fill glows a very bright orange and the whole electrode and lead in wire assembly glow yellow hot!

I had one of these in nightly service a few years ago, and was quite surprised after 2 years to find the ‘balls’ on the electrodes completely melted away!, they tend to eat away at the electrode rods until it changes the arc distance, then the lamps become unstable!, although it did keep its colour right to the end Cool

Beautiful photo as always

Interesting to hear that. It is a hell of a compact arc tube for 150w! They only claim 6000 hours for these!

The halide chemistry is tin-indium-thallium-sodium. The tin causes the discharge to cover the whole arctube, and is also have an afterglow after switch off.
