This LED lantern has been replaced a AEG Koffer 150 with a SON-T 250W lamp, that has been replaced a similar lantern with a cycling SON-T 150W.

Regarding to the transformer: You can see the arcing horns on it that protects it against overvoltage by creating an arc that shorting the output. Once the arc created, it rises upwards and disappearing, similar to a Jacob's Ladder.
But there is something strange with these arcing horns: The spark gaps have wires in them which I don't know what it is.

That’s brave to have so much power on a steel tower!, but I suppose it’s no different than the pylons we have here?

I think that the Israel electricity gird is different than in the UK and the European ones. Ash probably can explain.
