With the tip downward, the pressure would be reduced, as halides cumulatives at the tip, which is a cold spot. I always running my MH lamps with the tip upward to allow more halides to be enter to the arcstream.

BTW: How do you know that this lamp is Venture? NVC light was an independent Chinese manufactrer? Isn't it?

Just an educated guess of having an actual Venture example on hand which looks identical in every way.
