Gec z9582 gear view.
Recently acquired gec z9582 which has been stripped and cleaned and rebuilt and will be installed on the side of mine within the next week. Wiring has been tidied up and I had to re drill the nema mounts but it’s all good ready to go.new connector blocks were fitted as the originals crumbled upon removal. New cap fitted as well. Replacement bowl also fitted as the bowl off this was smashed. All ready to do another 30+ years service.

Interesting. I think these had some stange GEC ignitor which all seem to have been replaced at some point. Mine had an SX72 bodged into it which looked naff.

I have an earlier version of this with the open style choke not too sure when that dates to. Strange how the ballast is mounted in this as well. It’s come up really well for it’s age. It should hopefully be in nightly service once again shortly.

they originally had a white round ignitor the same size as in the photo, the gear in these fittings is pure PARMAR gear with a gec lable on it, parmar made all gec street lightings gear from about 1980 onwards till they packed up

I believe the one jon kept had the original white ignitor Phil describes.

Arived a bit late on the scene to make significant dents to the Thorn Beta 5's market dominance.

yes, seen quiet a few about, but they werent about long enough to be masses of them, they are ok, as good as a beta 5 really, prob better than any beta 5 after a MK15, as mk16's onwards leaked water, these never did
