Thorn Gamma 6 18w SOX: Three years on.
The 18w Osram SOX lamp has now completed 3 years of dusk-dawn service on my patio.
All of the blackening aound the electrodes which was on the lamp from new has completey dissapeard and has now started to turn brown. I checked on this lamp several months ago and it had started turning white first.
There is also the very slightest hint of some orange staining around the bend at the bottom of the lamp.
There is no evidence of any sodium loss into the outer jacket at all.

The lamp is operated on a Parmar resonant start style ballast with no in-circuit ignitor.
Interesting to see the shadows of the electrodes from the bright sunlight.

There's no way that's been in service for 3 years!

You have a better batch than What I had! Very Happy

Date code is N418. Control gear might be gentler on it also as the OCV is only 330v.

I might have to check this out tomorrow. Got back after a week in spain and it appears to have a slight intermittent flicker that comes and goes at random...
*Edit* Actually that was about 20-25 mins after switch-on when I noticed. Seems to have settled down now. Clocking up some hours now though.

That’s a shame, hope it’s got a couple more years in it.
