1994 Chloride Bardic 8w Emergency Bulkhead - Innards Found in the skip at work along with many other quality emergency lighting bulkheads, all now removed into my car boot of course! This one is the oldest at 1994 vintage. A quick test reveals that it appears to work fine. It's attempting to charge the (original!) batteries which still hold a very small amount of charge but need replacing

No real surprise that it works, most decent, old things like this last forever!

True. I would have put money on the batteries being completely dead at 25 years old though! Can't believe they're taking any charge at all

How come it has 2 wires going to one lamp holder and 1 wire at the other? Also what does the little potentiometer do labelled "VR1"? The battery says "replace after 4 years", I bet most fluorescent emergency lights in public have outdated batteries.
