Yellowed Thorn PP diffuser
This diffuser was on the 6ft pop pack in mum's kitchen for 9 years and seemed to yellow really badly as there were two pop packs and the other has no yellowing. This diffuser seemed to block more light than the other so perhaps it was from a bad batch. It was probably on for an estimated average of 3 hours every night over the year. The yellowing is on the surface and I am managing to get rid of it with some wet and dry paper. I'm going to treat it with some UV protection that is used on plastic such as boats, hopefully it will fair better as I want to use it again.

The diffuser on one of my 8w fittings has gone really yellow, especially where the cathodes are. I doubt that fading will ever be removed fully. The best thing may be to try and compensate the yellowing with a cooler colour tube.

I've complete the restoration of this diffuser using the same technique as for yellowed car headlights and applying a UV protector. The only thing about that is that it needs to be re-applied regularly monthly. That won't happen, maybe a couple of times a year when it's removed for getting rid of the dead flies. It's not going to be doing many hours, so time will tell as to how long it lasts. Always like giving something a new lease of life rather than sending it to land fill.
