Early 2000`s OSRAM-SYLVANIA ENDURA 100W/830 lamp
|
Osram's answer to the Philips QL series of lamps. Even thue both lamps are induction lamps, both have individual benefits and drawbacks. The Philips lamp is a more compact lamp and symetrical lamp making fixture design easier. It also allows the exchange of the lamps, without exchangig the antennase, allowing for a tool free lamp change. However the lamp is not run at highest effiency due to a comparably high discharge temperature. Osram's lamp which is shown here is made fron T17 glass tubing and has two antennal for power coupling. The geometry of the lamp allows for a cooler discharge increasing the lamps efficiency. However the geometry makes luminaire design more difficult as its not rotationally symmetrical. Both lamps have had application in street lighting and highbay lighting were they required only very little maintenance. However they were not able to replace more traditional light sources due to high cost and limited accesabilty with every manufacturer having their own system.
