National Panasonic K-HICA150FG 150W Penning-Start White SON/HPS lamp
Inspired by FrontSideBus's White SON comparison I thought it was finally time I fired up a White SON of my own, and which other then something a bit different than this lamp which I very kindly got from James recently at Kev's meet, a Japanese domestic market white SON lamp by National Panasonic, its a Neon Penning-start self igniting White SON lamp thats *not* a Mercury retrofit lamp but is *not* electrically the same as a regular 150W SON lamp!, in that regard this also proved a good use of my also recently acquired variable linear reactor ballast which is how I am running this lamp, (surprisingly the Specs for it are listed in the IEC standard for HPS lamps) this also the first Penning Start high pressure sodium lamp I have fired up myself as well which was fun.

light it produces is very nice indeed! I can certainly see what all the fuss is about when it comes to white SON's :) makes me wish someone made a plug-in lamp adapter for the smaller sizes! a 35W sort in a diffused outer bulb would be quite nice...

This is rather special indeed! A self starting white SON lamp with very high CRI. Shocked

yeah 2500K CRI of 85, its rather nice indeed! Smile they also did K-HICA with a "H" suffix on the end rather then the G suffix of this lamp the H suffix lamps are interesting in their own right 2800K with a CRI of about 78, described as "high colour saturation" lamps, and their spectrum has an noticeably increased red peak, i'd like to get one of those to see how they compare especially being an even higher CCT of 2800K
