MA/V odd behaviour? On one of the two MA/V lamps, as it reached full power, I noticed the main arc stream was bowing to one side towards the bottom of the tube, and a secondary arc was making its way upwards. I have no familiarity with MA/V lamps so don't know if that's normal behaviour.

One's first experience of an MA/V lamp is quite a moment to remember, they are such fascinating lamps. This behaviour is not unusual and is nothing to worry about. As long as the lamp is running vertically it will be fine but will benefit from a good run for an hour or two by which time the arc may have straightened out a bit.

100% it was a secondary arc stream. I looked from both sides and moved around to make sure

I've never seen this happens with my SBMV lamps.
It is also strange that there is a secondary arc.
Can you post a video of the lamp?

@dor: That’s probably because your SBMV lamps are not medium pressure lamps. MA/V lamps are quite different.

The arcs of MA/V and MB/U lamps are very similar in appearance. Only their size is different from each other.
If @AgentHalogen_87 would post these pictures in LG, James can explain.

Having both an MA and a MB lamp, I can tell you they do NOT look anything alike when lit!

I want to see a comparison between the MA and the MB arcs. This is strange for me.

@dor: Considering that you have spent the last 16 years on LG daily, it's incredible that you can make such a dumb statement that "The arcs of MA/V and MB/U lamps are very similar in appearance. Only their size is different from each other". Rolling Eyes There are many considerable differences including electrode type, arc vapour pressure, CCT, CRI and glass type. Surely you must have noticed this?

@Andy: I meaning the appearance of the MA and MB arcs, not other things.
