Sodium lamps being sodium lamps, my first test of lighting these, (2011), was to put 2 100watt tube chokes together, this resulted in a `wild` glow from both cathodes!!, but 150watt son gear is the best, (and easiest), to get hold of.

160w sunbed ballast underuns the lamp but better than overunning it on a son choke

I tried both a 180w sunbed ballast and a 175w MH ballast and if I remember correctly they both ended up delivering a bit too much current and as a result the arc voltage was lower than it should have been. I didn't use anything as fancy as an oscilloscope mind.

I've always used 150w son choke would rather the correct gear tho! But finding it will be like rocking horse shit

Anybody ever tried two 80w Mercury chokes in parallel?

Would be an interesting test, if I didn`t only have one of them!
