How flat do want it?, you could leave a bit of originality on it?, looks perfect like this

what did you use to fill the rust pits? did you paint this yourself, or did you get it stoved? looks good by the way

I filled all the pits with knifing putty, and then sanded it flat, making sure I used rust killer after each sand. After 2 or 3 skims I moved onto high build primer, followed with more sanding, using more standard grey primer to finish off. I think the paper was a bit too harsh though as you can see some of the paper marks in places, despite using wire wool to smooth it off as best I could.
