6.5v MES lamps

Even until quite recently, small incandescent lamps like these were quite common. In addition to torches and as back illumination for tuners, small incandescent lamps like these and similar could be found in pin ball and fruit machines, vehicles, as panel indicators in industrial machinery and also as floor indicators in lifts to name just a few applications. LEDs started to take over from the 1970s and it's easy to see why as LEDs can often be driven directly from electronics with no extra driver transistors. But the brightness of these lamps provided a long stay of execution. I still love the warm friendly glow from these lamps!
