Why is it most US floods mount the lamps vertical?

I don't know LOL but yep the larger floods generally do have vertical-mounted lamps, horizontal seems more common with smaller floods though.

The only time vertical flood lamps were used here, were in the old shovel heads in the 50s and 60s!
