I was very surprised the first time I saw this, that only a small amount of the coil is heated to glowing

Slih are lush my favourite of low pressure sodium lamps

Love watching these in action. I managed to capture a glow around the electrodes when I tried.

Really miss this camera. Was okay generally, but the macro mode was epic...would focus right down to 1.2mm. Sadly belonged to the office so had to hand it back when I left.
