Find The Issue

When doing some re-modeling I needed to take the covers off some outlets & even remove the outlets from their boxes. One I came across need a pic .lol.

There is something wrong in this pic. It will still physically work with no problems, but could pose a safety risk.

Not being familiar with US outlets, but I`ll guess the ground wire is missing?

Ugh look like alumium wire and seems like wire not on it screw terminals and the outlet all way touching metal on one side of box. I can see some arcing issue cropping up.

Nope, ground wire is fine, just can't see it in the pic.

Its copper wire, so no worries there.
Wires are all pushed in the back holes rather than the screw terminals, but yep that one screw on the neutral side...they just left it sticking out so it was contacting the grounded/earthed metal. Rolling Eyes

There was a slight darkening of the metal at that contact point so I know power was flowing back through the ground wire.
Problem was fixed right after I took the pic since I needed to turn off the breaker anyway Smile

I mean no disrespect...but seriously, I can't help but feel that US plugs and sockets are some majorly shonky bits of engineering. Especially the plugs on older appliances... wouldn't trust them with 1.6A never mind 16A!
