Aurora Cold Cathode CFL Saw a listing of these on eBay so I grabbed then roughly £1 each. Never seen a Cold Cathode CFL on ebay so when I was them I thought it'd be worth a punt. Take about a minute to warm up. I thought these would use a HF driver but they actually operate at 50 cycles (The fan test confirms it) and the flicker is noticeable. The CRI is supposedly 82 but that seems like a very generous statistic to me! For 8W lamps they are quite bright and would be nice in room corner lamps. Supposedly dimmable i'm yet to test it. B22 8W 2850K 320lm. Supposedly last up to 18K hours (we'll see). For a £1 each i'm happy with these lamps. Always wanted to see a CCCFL and now I own 10.

18000 hours, that's an impressive lifespan. I'm surprised these are 'A' energy rated considering they're only 40 lumens per watt. Lastly, I've found the listing and have bought 10x myself Laughing

There's a bit of confidence trickery there. 'A' energy rating pointing at B.

If i'm not mistaken the homebase 20W T12's put out more lumens per watt than these.

@BC5-80, well spotted! these will be B, no way they're A rated. As Lasaga says, 20w T12 Triphosphate lamps put out more lumens per watt and are B rated

Not forgetting all other size T12's, all banned, yet even the crappiest halophosphate T12 is 'B' energy rated. How the fuck does that make any sense when incandescent lamps rated 'D' are still available?

Whoever was in charge of the lighting efficiency system simply had a petty agenda against T12's. No sense in any lighting bans. Make the alternatives cheaper.

Whoever was in charge of these lighting bans simply didn't have a clue, one assumes they just looked at a bit of paper and realised T8s saved a few watts, so blanket-banned T12s not knowing about different control gears requiring them. They should have at least made an exception for 8-footers seeing as there is no T8 alternative available in Europe.

Anyway, rant over!

I received my CCFL lamps today, two of them don't work! If you haven't sone so, test all of them.

I will do. If a few don't work i'm not too arsed. they where cheap enough. I'm also gonna shut up about the T12 ban as i'm sure a word gets put in with every other thread on here Razz
