When the lamp hot restrikes, it don't light smoothly immediately, but instead rectifies, extinguishing, rectifies and stabilizing.
This is more common phenomenon with semi-parallel ignitors that produces 50 pulses/sec like Philips SN-58. I've also seen this with superimposed ignitors and Philips SON-T 150W, but rarely with low frequency pulse ignitors (They behaves like this mainly with MH lamps).
