What happens when you "flash" the lights with these?

Good question?, I don’t think that’s done with these?, unless it’s a quick discharge from the ignitor?

If they are anything like the HID kids that I tried on my motorbike than the skip is the only good place for them tbh!

The bike had a single projector headlight for dipped beam (left the high beam unit halogen) so I had a spare lamp and ballast with each car kit. I first tried a 55w H3 kit in 6000k which had a good output but a ballast died after a few weeks and then each lamp burned out their electrodes after several months on the second ballast (DC Operation). The second kit I tried was a 100w kit in 4000k which was ***FCUKING BRIGHT*** and was mega good but each lamp lasted no more than a couple of months with the failure mode this time being cracked arc tubes. I gave up after that point and went back to halogen because the HID lamps have a larger than normal base and in order to fit or remove them I had to remove the headlight, instrument cluster and front fairing unit completely off the bike which got very tedious after the first couple of times!
To give them the best chance I also ran some heavy gauge cable directly from the battery with a big chunky relay that was driven by the standard headlight wiring. It actually made the halogen slightly brighter when I went back to them due to the slightly less volt drop!
Not had a single halogen failure since!

These kits need banning and properly! You can't just shove a hid lamp into a headlight designed for halogen lamps without creating weird beam patterns and massive glare to oncoming vehicles. The amount of cars I flash now thinking they have high beam on is ridiculous, I often get an actual high beam flash in response that doesn't look any brighter than their dipped beam!! They could also have fitted those fucking disgusting LED halogen replacements or a higher wattage halogen lamp too I guess, both of which also very much belong in the bin ....rant over

The ones I tried, I checked and the centre of the arc tube was exactly in-line with where the filament would normally be. I don't know how they would work in a traditional reflector headlight but on the projectors fitted to the bike I noticed no change in the beam pattern or glare. In fact the headlights on that bike were "too good" if there could be such a thing. The headlight beam was just a triangle of light on the road with pretty much zero beam overspill which meant I had a very well illuminated bit of road in front of me with everything else in complete darkness!

These have a cup over them, I removed them for the photos, but the cup has a shield (bit like the one underneath the dip beam filament on a halogen), with a large gap beneath it for full beam.
