Thorn Beta 9 full range
As the title explains really, this is the whole complete range of Thorn Beta 9 lanterns. Designed in the 60's originally by AEI, the design continued right up to 1977 I believe when Thorn took over the design. An extremely simple design, the lanterns comprise of a simple pressed anodised aluminium canopy, a piece of bent metal above the lamp to spread light, and two bowl options, a clear anti vandal option, and a acrylic pinspot diffused bowl. They were never popular in the UK, seeing greater use in European countries.

The gearless lanterns weight a measly 2.1kg's whereas the geared ones weigh in at 5.1kg's. All 4 lanterns came from Telford, where the gearless type saw massive popularity. This all came to an end in 2018 when the whole area was relit for the dreaded led. The geared ones however were confined to one road only, an installation of 12. I tried to save all those examples, even relaying the info to the lads doing the work. sadly, all but 3 were lost.

Restoration will be a very quick and easy job, owing to their being only two to three components requiring paint, this being the spigot, gear cover, and lamp holder support. I fought to save as many examples as i could, so what I managed to save and pass on are the last ones of what was a huge installation of 100 to 200.
