Disano 1203 Kenia, gear closeup
|
Bought from a fellow collector, the Disano lantern is my 200'th lantern to enter the collection. Its certainly a cheap and cheerful lantern by a mile, but it still retains some quality about it. I believe the lantern saw 8 years installed, mostly of disuse. It was a casual replacement for a Thorn Gamma 8, and was fitted with a metal halide lamp to blend in with the mercury installation. Its a tiny lantern, but it still retains some character about it imo.
Overall, the lanterns in an amazing condition, featuring an clear and unyellowed polycarbonate bowl, unscorched paintwork, and mint condition internals. I had been after an example for a long time, so this one was a very welcome acquisition.
I wish I took some before photos, as it was here where the obvious cheap and cheerful side of the lantern showed. The ignitor and capacitor were simply loose inside, and the terminal block was on the lamp side of the gear tray. 3 holes drilled, I screwed the block into place and pop riveted two clips into place, allowing the ignitor and capacitor to be secured into place for the first time. It was a tidy up that was worth it.
