Blue Crompton 16W 2D lamp

some may recall me acquiring this lamp a good few years ago, however until a couple days ago I never had the opportunity to light it

well now that I managed to grab a couple of those Thorn 2D adapters I have been able to light it :)

its a very lovely deep blue colour, its a shame they dont make 2D lamps in other colours still

I thought the blue was a common colour for anti drug use in pubs?

indeed it is, hence why its AFAIK, the only true coloured 2D lamp still made

I got this one from CP lighting Smile

(along with Several GE 2D lamps in daylight, 16 21 and 38W 2Ds in 860 Smile

) , I got it a few years ago tho, so they might not be crompton ones anymore keep that in mind!

I remember when somebody posted one of these on LG and when I and a few people commented that these were so people couldn't shoot up drugs in public toilets the terrible twins kicked off about it! Laughing

I mean commenting on the actual purpose of a lamp was upsetting to them! Wtf lol

I think that the connection between blue light and drugs is an urban legend

IIRC the understanding behind these lamps was just that the blue light made it hard for a drug user to find a suitable blood vessel to stick the needle into, thus discouraging them from using that place to do their stuff

And certain loonies got the authorities to stop using these blue lamps because they claimed that as it makes the veins harder to see... that it might cause said druggy to hurt themselves!!! FFS!!!

@LBF: Yes that is exactly what these lamps are intended for and they work very well for this purpose.

Is the problem of druggies settling in public bathrooms that bad over there ? I expect that a much more normal and common use case for a public bathroom is just normal people who get some minor injury or bruise and come there to wash the blood at the tap. Definitely in venues wih kids running amok on holidays. Can't imagine the blue lamps being too great for this use case, allthough the concept is interesting

To be honest, depends where you are in the country. Some areas, it's endemic, other areas are fine and it's something you'd just never see. Depends to an extent (tho not exclusively) how deprived an area is. High levels of unemployment tend to see higher levels of drug use and crime - I guess if you have no job, nothing to do and want an eascape, drugs are going to be popular. That's not to say it's always the case tho... I spose most countries have their good and bad areas....

Indeed, we have our bad areas too, but even in them if you make it impossible for them to vaccinate from covid in a public bathroom they will just find some alternative place nearby with better lighting

I'm sure they were mostly designed to push the problem somewhere else, so whoever owned the bathroom, didn't have to clear up used needles, etc. It's someone elses problem then, so you donlt have to worry about it.
