Thorn beta 2 restoration

Seems as we are all on lock down and I’m not at work as I’m currently on furlough as I work in the automotive sector I’ve decided to rebuild a Thorn Beta 2 to as new condition and this will be fitted on my house in place of the GEC 35w sox I fitted the other month. I like the GEC but I want to run 55w and I will be installing this in a slightly different location for better light spread. I’ve painted the canopy and new bracket satin black after they were both given a few coats of etch primer first and the gear tray and ballast have been given a good covering in heat resistant brilliant white paint also. Parts were painted nearly 2 weeks ago so are fully cured now. I have a NOS bowl also so this should look amazing when finished and installed running a NOS GE 55w SOX lamp.

Weaver Vale council here used to paint lanterns black, but they only did them for a place called Whitegate, not sure why this was?, but I don’t remember anywhere else that had them?, they do look good in black though.

I’ve seen lanterns painted dark green in some areas on my travels.
