Here you see the gear tray of this 4x 4ft 40w modular fitting I acquired recently. It contains a quadruplet of Transtar A40 Quickstart ballasts, all dated February 1966. Sadly one appears to be dead.

Aye it was a trek to get it, but it turned out to be near some other bits I was collecting & the seller was available so collected this too

Yeah, it seems it may be properly dead too as one of the tubes had both cathodes blown out which I'm thinking might have happened when it failed. Possibly developed an internal short or something

That's a shame! Used to have one of these (tho I recall it being painted white) years ago, sadly not something I still own however.

Think the white or cream painted ones are a bit newer, possibly 70's or 80's

ive got one which is identical in shape to this, and size i recon, mine works a pair of T12 15 watt tubes, its white painted, came out of a bottling hall line overhead number sign, recon its 1960's era, still works, think ive a photo of it on here somewhere
