Now that I like!
I bet that smells lovely. There is a very distinct smell that you get inside well used sealed floods and lanterns
After looking at this again just now, I'm not convinced it's had much use or could be unusued. It appears as though it's been in a store cupboard for many years and then spent a few weeks outside possibly in a skip lol. Just guessing, could be wrong!
Given the pristine condition the diffuser is in, I expect you're right - if this had had a lot of use, the diffuser wouldn't look nearly as clean and clear as it does!

The Designplan lights were always great quality. I have a few 2D bulkhead from them and they are very solid.
Every time I see a 50w MBF now I think, I wish they made 15w LED filament lamps with that shaped outer!
It might be possible to put the insides of an LED lamp inside of one. It would probably be quite difficult though.
And quite short lived too unless you dim it (the LED filaments need gas fill for cooling). Btw, to me the lamp does not seem "lost". To work efficiently the lamp must be way smaller than the reflector. (With a clear lamp the arctube is the "lamp")

Got a stack of BNIB 28w 2-D Designplan bulkheads on a shelf in my container
Mine were are used but look new. One of them had a new Eveready lamp installed but the starter was stuck as it wasn’t changed in the relamp. The lamp’s plastic was a little yellow from the constant preheating.
Bet this wouldn’t look far off well with a clear 4000k filament LED in, it would give it a halide appearance?
A very EOL halide appearance (lumens...)
A 4000k clear LED filament lamp would look good in this imo, wouldn't take too much to give a similar appearance to the 50w mbfu seeing as it only provides about 1800lm. If I was to put this into use I'd probably bang a 40w 4000k Megaman CLusterlite in it seeing as I already have a couple and they provide about 2680 lumens, better cri and use much less power (taking ballast losses into account)
That might overheat in one of these, I’ve seen Diall now have a 2000+ lumen SMT output LED lamp now.
A clusterlite would be absolutely fine in here, I've got one running all night every night in a similar or smaller enclosure (Philips MI55). I've seen them used in hot areas in industrial locations with no issues too... I would check that Diall lamp out but as there's currently an hours queue on the B&Q website, I think I'll go and do something else instead
Yeah that’s really taking the piss!, you now have to ‘queue up’ to use a website!!, even if your NOT buying anything!
