Crusty 1970's 5ft Thorn Popular Pack, as found Here you see an old Thorn Popular Pack, rescued from a scrap pile. Luckily was covered from direct rain but none the less has been outside for a good number of years. This is in full working order including the Osram 65/80w 3500k tube that was still fitted, how it wasn't smashed I don't know! I haven't fully restored a fitting yet but I think I will this one, might make it a grey-sider.

Here you see an old Thorn Popular Pack, rescued from a scrap pile. Luckily was covered from direct rain but none the less has been outside for a good number of years.
This is in full working order including the Osram 65/80w 3500k tube that was still fitted, how it wasn't smashed I don't know!

I haven't fully restored a fitting yet but I think I will this one, might make it a grey-sider.

Derelict, fallen down static caravan find lol! It's recently been tidied up and this was in the scrap pile. It should come up pretty good once I get the rust off and give it a fresh coat of paint, there's no rot and it's all in tact

you'l find if you blast it, the fitting may loose its shape as its very thin metal once heavily corroded, you'l also have lots of rust pits which will show up like a sore thumb once repainted, thats allways the main problem when re painting heavily rusted fittings

Thanks Lampy, I did think about blasting it but it is rather thin steel as you say. I've taken the worst rust spots off with a fine flap disc on the grinder, the rest I'll sand by hand. I know it's not going to be perfect but it'll be a lot better than it is now (hopefully!) Smile

if you do get it blasted, get a long 5 foot narrow strip of 3/4 shuttering ply, screw the fitting at regular intervals to the thick plywood, and then take it to the blasters, this should give it a better chance of not bending and bowing

Thats a good idea! I don't think it's worth blasting though? Will most likely hand sand it, I'll see how it goes...

...Just noticed I got this a year ago! It was the first Pop-Pack of this style I acquired, seem to have loads of them now!
