These are gorgeous lamps! Yes the green band is to show that a ballast is needed to operate the lamp.

Was there many 80 watts used in Texas Jeremy?, or were they all 175s in your neck of the woods?

175 watts was most common in Neck of woods then 400 watts is next common lamps. The 80 watts lamps here is very rare. I got mine philip lamp from Canada ebay.
