Unusual 1980's lamp adapter with inbuilt photocell

Here is a slight oddity I picked up on Ebay not long ago. Although lamp adapters with timers and photocells weren't uncommon in the 1990's and early 2000's, this earlier version features a photocell on the end of a long wire protruding out of the main section of the adapter!
