GEC Z8128B "Clearmain" lantern
I couldn't believe my eyes when I spotted this lantern today - located in the quiet town of Devizes in Wiltshire. This is the first time I've seen one of these in person, with the exception of some disused post-top mounted Clearmains near some railway sidings a few years ago.

There's a survivor like this near me. Such a rare sight.

They must have been fairly popular in their day, but there certainly aren't many about now. Definitely a lantern on my own wishlist to acquire!

Not many of those around any more. Farnham in Surrey was the last big intact installation of these - wiped out in the 2014 lighting replacement scheme. Luckily, they were saved, between myself and one of the contractors (who is also a collector) who had spotted these and knew their value. I kept one, the others went to other collectors.
