Thorn 115v 60hz 2ft 18/20w Ballast Found in a oval lamp holder PP18 I acquired recently. I noticed the ballast looked a bit small before testing it, luckily I looked a bit closer and saw it was for 115v 60hz supplies! I have now swapped the ballast out for whatever I laid my hands on first, which was a VS similar to the one pictured as size comparison.

Found in a oval lamp holder PP18 I acquired recently. I noticed the ballast looked a bit small before testing it, luckily I looked a bit closer and saw it was for 115v 60hz supplies!

I have now swapped the ballast out for whatever I laid my hands on first, which was a VS similar to the one pictured as size comparison.

I wonder if the Pop pack was made for use on a ship somewhere? cant say I have come across a 110-120V Pop pack before let alone one thats rated for 60Hz Smile

The fitting was in an industrial control panel where the control voltage would have been 110v, probably 50hz so the tube wouldn't have been driven properly.

Nope and the building it was in has now been flattened. It was a large panel, probably 1.8m high, 600mm deep and about 3 meters wide in total, split into about 3 cubicles. This was in the small 'control' cubicle that had an inverter front-end and a few relays and fuses in. Really should have taken a picture actually!
