Eye Iwasaki 400W Clear elliptical High pressure sodium lamp

heres a lamp that James very kindly gave to me many years ago

its a lovely high quality Eye-Iwasaki sodium lamp :)

I find this one particularly interesting, as not only is it a clear elliptical lamp which is a bit odd itself, but its especially odd for Eye, as their default bulb shape was BT, (Blown tubular) and not elliptical, although you could order elliptical lamps on request, from 250W to 1000W, which someone clearly did for this lamp

I do wonder what a 1000W elliptical Eye lamp would have looked like!

yeah the Standard High Prerssure Sodium LAmps by Iwasaki are Elliptical, rather the BT shape, though if you get their Retrofit Lamps in 110, 150 220, 360 and 940 watts they indeed are made withthe BT shape bulbs.

Also thanks to the EU with their Lamp Bans etc sadly Iwasaki Lighting have closed their UK division

interesting that Eye's default bulb shape for non tubular HPS lamps was Elliptical rather than BT, I wonder why that was, and if it was just a local market thing, IE where HPS lamps sold by them in the US and Japan BT shaped instead? (you missed out 660W on the retrofit wattage list, I think Eye was the only company to make a HPS retrofit for the 700W mercury lamp Smile

same FSB! I only have a few Eye lamps in my collection but id love to get some more, I really like just how well put together and high quality they are Smile

and they also made plenty of odd ball types and wattages that others did not make, or had stopped making a long time ago, for example 40W and 2000W mercury lamps (I happen to have a 40W Eye mercury lamp in the collection I must get round to uploading it!)

Always good to see an Iwasaki lamp! You know they are good quality and as you say, they made some unusual types and great retrofit lamps that weren't available from other manufacturers.
