Eye Iwasaki 40W clear mercury lamp
another lamp I have had in my collection for many years (I have recently been re-organising my lamp collection so I am taking the opportunity to upload some of the lamps which I got years ago but never did upload for various reasons)

is this lovely Eye Iwasaki 40W clear mercury, this was the smallest rating of high pressure mercury lamp made (outside of the 30w~ arc tube from a 100W self ballast mercury lamp anyway!)

I think Eye was the last company to make dedicated 40W and 50W mercury lamps, 40W mercury lamps where never a thing in Europe, but where a thing in Japan and the US, however in the US, most lamps of the past few decades have just dual rated 40W/50W (I say never a thing in Europe, however Eye did list 40W in their European catalogs, but even this lamp came directly from Japan from another collector, and im not aware of any European manufacturer offering the 40W size)

in typical Eye fashion, it is extremely well built and a lovely little lamp

These little lamps are very pretty. The quality is very good. The light is "disgustingly beautiful", I like that very much.

Andy has one of these in a coach light on his fence, that looks mint when lit up Cool

Yes these are lovely little clear lamps. After much use, mine still looks practically new and is just as bright.

Which ballast do you use to operate the 40W mv lamp? The IWASAKI catalogue specifically lists a ballast for this lamp. However, this is not available in Europe. Which ballasts do you use to regulate the lamp current favourably?

I find a 35W MH ballast with the ignitor removed is just perfect for operating this lamp.
