Nothing will beat the radiant quality of a glow that comes from SON and SOX on evenings especially this time of the year, no LED can ever, not even the 3000K lot can provide the same welcoming and cosy glow. In fact I would love driving at night a lot more if SON and SOX still ruled the roads but anyhhow I'm in the process of getting a new car after having the tiny red car for nearly 6 years since I passed my driving test

Yes, I must admit, I got bored of sodium street lighting at the start of the sweeping LED change over in December 2016 here, but then white light gets equally monotonous when it’s everywhere!, I’ve not ran HID outside lighting at home since 2017! With regards the car, I was out driving every night at the start of the 90s, taking in all the incredible street lighting we used to have as you say , it’s just not the same anymore though, but I do like the 3000K we have here now.

@Angryhorse: You had it amazing with all the wonderful non LED streetlighting, with me I only had a few of that experience but can only achieve it in Hampshire areas where they still lucky enough to have the new SON streetlighting now in Berkshire there is hardly any nice streetlighting left as it is mostly 4000-6500K LED streetlighting it makes driving at night feel like a chore but I must say I am thrilled to be getting a new car sometime this year it will be a 5 door SUV type so I can feel safer on long drive outs such as motorways and A roads. My current hatchback car is brilliant for a small form factor car but it is good for shorter drive outs and built up areas

Yeah I do feel for the younger members and lighting enthusiasts, I was really lucky to be a child of the 70s, and got to witness mercury, SOX, SLI/H and SON in full time service at night, I only wish the internet would have been around at the start of the 90s when I was at my peak with lighting

Nice! It's hard to beat that warm glow
Agreed can't beat that glow especially in the winter finally started the LED rollout locally but have spec'd 3000K thankfully

It's funny as I always see SON as an industrial light source, not so much now but in the recent past all sorts of industrial areas like ports, oil refineries, factories, air ports etc. used it on top of it's use in street lighting, but with such a warm glow it always made these sort of places look cosy and inviting imo, which is mostly lost now it is all blasted with 4000K+ LED

There’s still a couple of places I pass going home on the industrial estate that still have their Sonpak 25 in full working order, they stand out in the sea of 4000k

SON is really standing out in areas where it is still present now isn't it Sad how they have gone from being so ubiquitous to a rare sight in many areas

Weaver Vale still has full time SON Vectras in service across from the traffic lights at the top end of Winsford industrial estate, that’s nice to see each night on my way home
