Nice to be rediscovering SON
I do like a 50W son have a 50W streetwise in at my mums place in her domestic outdoor light
Interesting bit of history, on Monday 21st of December 2015, I put a post in LRs discharge section titled, “Arc swirl on SON lamp!!”, it was referring to my GE you can see at the bottom with the slightly darkened tip! This lamp had done almost 5 years, about 20,000 hours when I took it out!
I’m thinking my front light for these Kev!
Yeah 50W is a really nice size, just slight smaller than 70W makes it a little more suitable for some smaller fittings
They don’t get too hot either, I currently have an 1800K LED in my front light doing an impression of a SON!, the REAL thing may be a better option?
Indeed that makes them more suitable for use in converted GLS fittings Well I would, far too much LED out there now a proper SON lamp makes a nice change
Yes especially seeing as electric has come down a bit think I’m going to replace my 18W SOX out the back of my barn with a 50W SON of some kind. I have those holophane wall packets that are 125W merc that would be a great SON T conversion.
Sounds good Rich. Look forward to seeing the conversion back to SON! I think you should try one of the ventures out! As I am planning same as Kev to replace my 18w SOX with either a 50w SON or 35w SOX Holophane wallpacket. And was thinking of a 50w venture if I settled on the 50w SON. So would be good to see how the venture lasts. Could you possibly upload a picture of one of the venture lamps?
It will be the first time I’ve had a 50 at the front
Ge Is starting to look nice and ripe Would be interesting to see how much longer the GE would last in service.
No its had it , it still works well, but persistently flickers once run up, not really something I want back on the front , it’s been gracefully retired now
