A very surprising treasure: THERE IS A SOX ROOM IN THE MADATEK MUSEUM!

I didn't believed to see this room with a REAL SOX lamp in the Haifa Museum of Science, Technology, and Space (MadaTek)!
It is a very small room with a single 55W SOX lamp, that demonstrates the monochromatic light of a low pressure sodium lamp:

It is just a shame that I didn't bought my discs with me to see and capture the spectrum of SOX lamp.
This lamp seems to work on a HF electronic ballast as there was no flickering visible through my eyes and my camera.
SOX lamps were very rare here in Israel. They were mainly used in very few highways in Israel (During the 20th century), at Orout Rabin power plant (Hadera), and in the parking lot of Dan Panorama hotel (Haifa).
Today, you can't find these type of lamps here in Israel.

Cool Cool, you would only get one line on the disk anyway, but it would have looked different to any other lamp.

Yes. But there are some dim sodium and neon lines in additional to the 589nm doublet.

This actually looks like a 90 watt too, there’s very little length difference in them against the 55s, but this is definitely fatter.

this is actually a very good photo of this room! I love this

@Angryhorse: This lamp is as long as a BT56 1000-1500W probe-start MH lamp and very thick. 90W is longer than 55W .
And this lamp is way brighter than the 94W LED lanterns we have here at Kiryat Ata.

@Danny: This room very reminds me of LAllenLighting's SOX room , excepts it is very small and have only one lamp, and isn't an art exhibition but a science exhibition.

I also think that this lamp is 90W SOX lamp. 90W are fatter and look much more proportional then the 55W Lamp that looks rather elongated
dor123   [02 Mar, 2025 at 11:02 AM]
This lamp indeed looked very large and huge.

And @Ash thought it is 55W, after telling him that the length of the lamp is the same as BT56 American 1000-1500W probe-start MH lamp.
