Strange that in the GE H-2 with the bare arctube, the frame wire passing inside the arctube without melting when the lamp is hot.

why should it melt? The as discharge is not hot enough. Before the wire melts the glas would likely fail.

Yes, I’m not sure just how hot Dor thinks the arc gets. It’s a lamp not a blast furnace!

Yes, with this lamp p_v is rather low. Maybe in some highly loaded short arc lamps p_v becomes high enough to melt steel wire, but even there i am uncertain.

However it is certainly possible to melt metals with an arc as it is done in arc furnaces.

p_v is the power dispication per unit of volume:
p_v=E*S
E: Electric field [E]=V/m
S: current density field [S]=A/m^2
[p_v]=W/cm^3
