Concord:Marlin Skyline
|
This Concord:Marlin Skyline is probably one of the most modern looking post tops to arrive in the collection. It also goes down as being probably one of the most tedious lanterns I've ever stripped down to clean ever. The whole job took over an hour to disassemble, clean and reassemble.
Despite being a tedious lantern to work on, It's a well built and very overengineered lantern, and it does has some redeeming points. To access the lamp you undo two screws at the top, and to access the connector block, you undo two screws on the base. Good luck accessing the gear though, as you'd need to totally disassemble the lantern. The thing that really lets it down for me is the plastic louvres, as you can see they've only just started going yellow here, but even so they were painfully brittle in places.
It came with a Cosmo lamp, however I decided to try and be a bit kinder to the louvres and put a slightly cooler burning SON lamp in it instead. It looks really nice when lit too, and downwards light is excellent. The over reflector has definitely played a part in preventing the louvres from yellowing quicker, so this will be retained.
