Merchant Adventurers "Ventura" - A stylish 1960's pendant light fitting
Quite by chance, I stumbled upon this absolute relic today on my University's campus - in a loo of all places! Considering virtually every other light fitting I've spotted so far at this Uni has been rampantly LED'd, or at the very least is a modern T5 fluorescent fitting, this was a surprise. Complete with a 32 year-old Philips 150w GLS lamp - itself a rarity these days, and probably only the second lamp it's sported in its lifetime. I'd imagine the original lamp was probably an 100-150s crown silvered GLS

I remember similar designs in the 70s being all the rage for houses Cool

Had those in the older part of my secondary school that was built in 1956, though with a more conventional white ceiling rose. They were 100w, didn't produce anything like enough light for a classroom. I remember a teacher switching them on on a dull day and sarcastically saying: 'Oh that's really made a difference hasn't it!'. Some only had 60w lamps.

One of the schools I work at was built in 1961 and had these lights. My old CLASP primary school also had these fittings and they were wired in MICC and they all ran CFLs. Luckily I managed to save a couple. The shades are very fragile...
