It would more of a surprise if you found one that didn`t work!, you also can`t tell from the other picture that they have covers that let light through on

That's a really nice fitting. I'd love to be able to find some of these amazing oldies that you keep finding!

Your best bet is to look for shops that reside in mills or derelict buildings that appear to have work being done on them. Also rummage in the tube bins at electrical wholesalers and at the tip. Not just your local one but also all the others nearby. Ive been told not to take things from the tip on many occasions but no one has tried to stop me. That's what I do.

Nice find Jonathan is it quiet or does it have a bit of a hummmm to it? What lamp is it running?

Nice find Guaranteed it would fire straight up

Completely silent. Not even a thump when it starts. The lamp is what appears to be a Philips mcfe from the early 70s late 60s and is the lamp it was found with.

I think this fitting is almost definately made by a company called UTILAIR (utilities of London limited) as i have a few from an old RAF site. I have one the same as this, and the others older with a thin top spine with the ballast mounted on the top of the fitting.

Sadly there's no derelict buildings where I live. The North West and Yorkshire seem to be the places where there are planty of gems still to be found due to the quantity of old mills in those areas.
