A very sad Thorn Popular Pack Here you see a very sad twin 5ft Pop Pack in a service room at my work. It's had the stuck starter in it for at least 2 years. The room it's in has always been damp, but in the last few weeks the water's started pissing in! The underside of the cover that's hanging off looks rotten. All this abuse and it's still working!

Here you see a very sad twin 5ft Pop Pack in a service room at my work. It's had the stuck starter in it for at least 2 years. Put a zumptobel pop pack in there see how long it last Cool rather not As this is to prove how robust this thing is.
I once pulled out a old ballast that some one tossed in pond weater logged ballast. I let it dry and rewire leads on the
Ballast. It came to life. Cant do that to a electronic ballast. It will be dead water logged creating a galvinic reaction of metals here.

Good old quality Thorn. Ditch the knackered cover, bung in a new starter and tube and she's good to go for a few more years. Smile

I agree Andy I'm sure it'll do many more years. Unfortunately it's not up to me to sort this out, the day guys are on it. If the fittings in here get scrapped I'll hopefully be able to save them (there's three more in better fettle also)

You just know a new tube and starter that it will blink back into life. There was some 70s PP's at the place my dad worked at that were left like this for a good 5 years and as soon as i put a new tube and starter in it came on no problem

I'd lamp the fucker up just to prove a point. There is one of these at my work been in a outside barn for years and still working lol

Went to have a look at this today. The cover has been removed completely and is in the skip, it's very rotten! The lamp with the stuck starter has been removed. I guess this is how it'll stay

Poor old thing Sad This looks beyond the point of being restore-able, but you just know the gear is all still good.
They need to fix their roof!...and for that matter looking at that moldy ceiling, looks like they need to 'gut' this room & re do it.

Yeah it's rotten, even I wouldn't attempt restoring this lol. The whole room is rotten really, it's been damp for years. The only reason they're doing something about it now is because water has started pouring in all over a 415v distribution switchboard which supplies critical parts of the mill!
