Nationl Panasonic MT35CE-W-EU compact CMH for the japanese marktet
Here you can see another version of small compact CMH lamp for the domestic Japanese market. The lamp is mad by National Panasonic and rated 35W. The lamp features an EZ10 cap with an usually long centre contact. That is necessary in order to prevent flashovers when the ignition voltage of several kV is applied in such compact base.
The usage of an Edison screw for such small HID lamp is highly unusual and seems to be mostly limited to Japan. In Japan pin bases like G12 or G8.5 which are the bases most commonly found on european compact CMH lamps are rather unpopular. However screw terminal seem highly popular which can also bee seen by other lamps that have a pin base in Europe but a screw base in Japan. Other examples are halogen lamps like MR16 or SDW-T white son Lamps.
Also unusual is that this very compact lamp is rated for open fittings. The inner lamp is placed in glass shroud which is cemented int ver ceramic base. Notably there are no similar compact open rated lamps in europe to my knoledge.

This lamp is slightly different compared to Danny's lamp which features a wires spring to center the inner lamp in the envelope, while my lamp uses a stamped sheet metal band.

These are quite interesting specimens! The Japanese certainly did love their HID. Too bad we never got anything like this over here.

Compact MH lamps with quartz jacket, aren't popular in Japan, hence their low wattage lamps also uses screwbases and hardglass jacket

Very interesting Cool, didn’t know the Japanese were using halide in domestic applications?

DOR, i disagree. I very much disagree to be honest. The only compact CMH lamp in hard glass I know of Is the 20W CMI from sylvania. I hade a check at what Japanese lamp catalogue says and regarding compact MHlamps, they offer these in various flowers and the more traditional european designs with G8.5 and G12 base. Also worth noting this lamp is made from quartz not hard glass.

AngryHorse, I think MH was rather popular in Japan. They bought up lots of unique MH lamps.

@Alex: Compact MH lamps are all of the <150W MH lamps with compact quartz jackets and two pins single ended or double ended formats. Japan don't have these lamp formats. They don't have G12 or smaller and R7s bases, Only screwbase lamps, and screwbase lamps with hardglass or soda lime glass jackets aren't considered compact.

First of all: Japan also has G12, Rx7s and G8.5 quartz CMH lamps, however less popular then these. Secondly this lamp has an EU10 base so is screw in lamp. This lamp is also made from quartz. This lamp is not much bigger the the 35W G12 Lamp and smaller the the 35W Rx7s lamp so it is a compact lamp

So why the jacket don't have an exhaust tip like the jackets of most quartz jacketed lamps?
Alex   [28 Feb, 2025 at 02:06 PM]
The outer jacket is not sealed, rather more like a an test tube stuck around the inner jacket wich is like a G8.5 CMH lamp. The Exhaust tip is masked by the metal band and the moly foil seals by the ceramic base. The latter can be seen here HERE.
However I can also play that game: Show me the glass stem on the lamp with its evacuation point Wink

If you enlarge this picture you can see part of the evacuation tip above were the arc tube is welded to the lead in wire.
dor123   [02 Mar, 2025 at 04:34 AM]
I don't see any exhaust tip at the inner jacket.

You can also google the lamp reference number in the title and you'll see enough pictures of the exhaust tip or you will just have to belive me that this lamp is made from quartz.

Google Search
I see lots of pictures, but non of them large enough, and I don't see any exhaust tip at the inner jacket.
