Thorn 2DFVP16's on weird brackets.
|
I came across these real curiosities on the land of an old hospital that's currently being demolished. These two pairs of Thorn 2DFVP16's were mounted on some very homemade looking brackets, welded to Abacus raise and lower columns that had been cut down to position these just above the neck of the columns base. Seeing they were only gonna be removed and scrapped, I requested whether I could have them from the groundsmen, and they let me go right ahead in cutting them off!
Getting them home, it was clear they were well abandoned, only one lamp was working, all the cells dayburned, they were absolutely filthy, and annoyingly a ballast had blown itself to another continent. I managed to repair three of the original cells by replacing the LDR in the minicell eye, but the fourth required complete replacement with help from Danny. I replaced the dead ballast, and then unyellowed the plastic covers with another much quicker technique I've developed. Annoyingly the one covers been drilled, so I've filled the holes in, but a new cover will definitely be a better long term solution. I also decided I should keep the mad brackets, and since the column is 89mm, I drilled and tapped them allowing me to tighten them to columns now.
My plans from here is to paint those homemade brackets gloss black so they match the bulkheads themselves, and then I'll see if I can get some cut down columns to make two really nice 2D bollards with.
