Kingfisher Sloane: Re-geared and Modified The geartray of this lantern is quite nice tbh. It's made from really solid feeling plastic and is slotted and holed so it can fit pretty much any control gear that you want in it! The left image shows the base and the right image shows the new ballast that I have fitted which is a dual tap 50/70w Magnetek unit that is significantly larger than the VS 70w choke that was there before! I have also raised the level of the lampholder so more of the lamp protrudes into the louvre stack.

Odd that they went with plastic as a gear tray. I wonder how well it will hold up to heat from the ballast

I suppose it depends on what sort of plastic it is, I believe the plastic trays used in the WRTL Arc and Urbis Sapphire were some sort of glass reinforced polycarbonate and they seemed to hold up ok.

Not great tho from the perspective of dissipating heat from the ballast

Yes that is true, you wouldn't want to fit an especially hot running ballast to it. I imagine that might send it into meltdown if day burning on a hot summers day Confused
