Falks GLS Pedestal light, before restoration.

I bought this beautiful Falks Pedestal light from an antiques flea fair I frequently visit in May, mounted on a very oversized and blocky wooden base that really doesn't match with the light well. The finials been replaced with an absolutely hideous lifting eye, and the three ball nuts on the canopy have also been replaced with normal hex nuts too, meaning its a nuisance to get into. Speaking with the seller, he wanted to bring its 'industrial' looks out, which imo is the wrong way to go about this, its more of a decorative functional light to my eyes.

Seeing past that, I knew the construction of the light is pretty much nothing but brass, and the cone surprisingly is glass. Knowing how well these clean up, I took a punt and bought it despite the nightmare I knew I'll have finding a replacement finial, especially since I don't even know what it looks like or even its dimensions. I gave it a quick power up not long after I got it home, and it really is a stunning looking light when lit.

After that, I immediately removed it from the wooden base, got that horrific lifting hook off and binned it, and then replaced the hex nuts back to the correct ball nuts. I could only get them in M4 thread, and since the originals are 4BA, that meant I had to drill upwards to 3/16 BSW, thread lock them in, cut them flush and drill and tap to the correct thread.

Admittedly I'm a bit stuck regarding a new finial, ideally I need to find someone who has an example of these. The restoration will involve stripping all the paint off, before painting the underside of the canopy white, and then I'll simply polish and lacquer everything else to bring out the natural beauty of the brass. The base will be retained, but will be given to someone to turn the wood to a more appropriate shape, before staining it with a light coloured wax to compliment the brass. Whether I end up installing it outdoors though is another thing, it really is too nice to put outdoors again imo.
